My Kitchenaid Mixer Buying Guide

There are so many options to consider when purchasing a new appliance. Wattage, Size, Color, Features, etc. If you are on the market for a new Kitchenaid mixer, this article may help make your decision easier. I compared multiple models and decided on either the Artisan or the Pro 600 stand mixer. This is the method behind my madness!

I got this information from the Kitchenaid website here.

When it comes to purchases, I am always on the look out for a good deal. So I first started by asking multiple friends and family on the types of mixers they owned and if they had advice they could give me in aiding my decision.

They all advised me on one main point!

Pick a color you really liked due to the longevity of these appliances.

I kind of laughed a bit when my first friend told me this, but then when multiple friends and family started suggesting this as well; I started to realize this is a very valid point.

Most everyone I spoke with had an older model then the ones I am considering. Most of their units had been given to them as either gifts or passed down from another family member.

One friend in particular had a model that was given to her 15 years ago, the unit was about 20 years old at the time. She absolutely loves the unit, but hates the color! I knew then that color would need to be taken into account when making my decision. After all this appliance will likely be around for a very long time.

My initial thought was to go with the Kitchenaid mixer Pro 600. Why? The wattage is greater than the Artisan mixer. The Pro 600 comes in at 525W verses 325W from the Artisan. Another benefit of the Pro 600 is the stationary head. I figured the stationary head would logically seem stronger than a tilt head. The larger bowl is a plus as well.

The major downside to this decision is that the MSRP could make you pass out from sticker shock! In my searching I did discover that it is actually possible to find a Pro 600 for about half off the suggested retail purchase price. This is significant and means it is not a huge stretch from the Artisan sticker price.

So I made up my mind to get a Pro 600, now I needed to find a color I liked. Well that was difficult because there aren’t that many colors to choose from. I did notice if Red is your color you are in luck!

The market is flooded with red mixers. I on the other hand wanted something more pink or turquoise. Guava Glaze or Aqua Sky are my top favorites. In searching for different colors I did come across this yellow Buttercup color. I really like that color as well, it seemed very clean and classy.

Making my purchase.

I have been searching for a good price for a few weeks now. I am however very glad that for once my indecision paid off nicely, when I could not decide on which color to choose between. Why is this a payoff? Because something happened that changed my mind on the entire way I was viewing these two units.

The Big News!

Kitchenaid is reaching its 100 year anniversary and in celebration of this amazing accomplishment they released a limited edition Heritage version of the Artisan mixer.

This Kitchenaid mixer has a more classical retro look. It is beautiful from the front power hub to the limited edition ceramic hobnail bowl. But with all that beauty comes a pretty hefty price tag. This unit will set you back about $700. I just cannot justify spending that amount of money on a mixer because of its look. Even though I was told to give this much consideration.

This did however bring up an idea I had not considered when first researching which Kitchenaid mixer I wanted to purchase. With a Pro 600 you have to have a special Kitchenaid mixing bowl designed with these clips or handle like pieces on both sides of the bowl. This is so that the mixer can lift the bowl to meet the paddle.

That led me to realizing that this mixer is limited on which bowls can be used. Unlike the Artisan mixer which only needs a 5 qt mixing bowl, you have more options. I can get an Artisan and get a different ceramic bowl, where as in the Pro I am limited to the glass or steel bowl. This may seem obvious, but I honestly had not thought about it until seeing this new anniversary edition and falling in love with that hobnail bowl.

Due to this whole revelation I  have changed my mind and actually purchase an Artisan mixer in Guava Glaze and a separate ceramic mixing bowl that is very similar to the hobnail bowl on the Anniversary Edition. The bowl is called White Chocolate and it is so beautiful!

I would have loved the anniversary edition, but with such a steep price tag, I decided to settle for just the regular version of the Artisan mixer in my favorite color. I did find lots to choose from on ebay and mercari, both new and used. I also found some from the kitchenaid website for only $299.

Where to purchase a Kitchenaid Mixer?

I however found an amazing and unbeatable deal on my Artisan mixer here at QVC.com

Because of the 100 year anniversary they have a sale on the Artisan Mixer for just $269.98 with FREE Shipping. This is a steal and because you purchase from QVC you have the option to pay it off in multiple payments instead of it all up front! This sale is only good til September 30th 2018, so do not wait and jump on this deal!!!

To sweeten the deal you can also get cash back by using ebates.
