Finding the perfect cash envelopes can be a pain, there are so many designs, but not many fit all of your needs. This DIY Cash Envelopes with a Cricut are absolutely perfect for a planner wallet! The envelopes are durable and easily accessible with tabs to label each envelope. They will make your life so much easier, especially when you get to the check out counter.
So this week, as I’m slowly starting to get back into the swing of things, I decided my personal wallet planner needed an update. More specifically my cash envelopes needed a bit of updating.
I was using plain white envelopes with a printed register as my cash envelopes. While this works, it was just not durable at all! I also found it difficult to get the money out with these envelopes opening to the side.
Don’t even get me started on all the ugly looks you get when people realize you’re paying with cash. Like cash is so much slower than a card. Come on, I know you’ve been behind that person who seems to have never used a credit card machine before!
You start feeling like your on some ‘Supermarket Sweep’ game show and you have to hurry and pay as fast humanly possible. Well my current system made it hard for me to play this game. You know the struggles!
So I set out to create my own cash envelopes with my Cricut. I needed them to be durable, so I laminated them. They also needed to open from the top, and made so I could easily see the money in each envelope. I also wanted them tabbed because I hate flipping through everything to find the one I need!

Supplies Needed:
- card stock or scrap-booking paper (I got mine at Hobby Lobby)
- lamination machine and lamination sheets
- exact-o knife
- glue (I personally like and use Ad Tech Crafter’s Tape, you can get a 4 pk on Amazon for a reasonable price!)
- Cricut Machine (I use the Cricut Explorer Air 2)
Cash Envelopes with a Cricut Instructions:
Step #1: Creating the Template in Cricut Design Space
When creating cash envelopes with a Cricut, you will need to open Cricut Design Space and click on add a shape. Select a square, and change the measurements to 3.75 x 6.75 inches. You will need to make sure the shape is unlocked to change the size of the shape.
Then add another square, unlock the the measurements, and change them to .5 x 1 inches. Make a duplicate of each shapes before moving on.
Now that you have your large rectangle and small rectangle you need to connect them correctly. Move the smaller rectangle to touch the larger one, then select both rectangles and hit align top. The images should be at the same height.
Next you need to weld these two images together. I like to change the color of this image after it is welded so I can tell the difference between my tabs easily.
You will follow this process 6 more times making sure your tabs are spaced evenly each time and giving each image a different color once welded. I know these DIY Cash Envelopes instructions seem a bit daunting! Trust me as I type all this out I’m going crazy making sure not to leave any steps out, but it does not have to be this way.

Step #2: Cutting out your Template
Now that you have your dividers created you will obviously need to cut them out. The scrapbook paper I used was only one sided, so I knew I needed to put two pieces of paper together for each envelope. I duplicated all of the dividers and flipped them horizontally.
Now to properly print each divider out on different paper, I hid every other divider. Again because my paper was one sided that means I had two of the exact same dividers visible for each cut.
Load each piece of paper onto your light grip cutting mat and load it into your machine. Check your settings!!! Make sure the proper setting is selected and the fine tip blade is loaded before you make your cuts.
Follow this process 6 more times cutting a different divider each time, this is where the different colors for each page comes in handy.
Step #3 Assembling the cash envelopes
You will now make a slice from the top left corner of the divider diagonally down to the right side. Make sure you are only cutting on the top divider. I’m not sure if this explains it enough, so see the picture below. LOL
Glue the small piece of paper to the bottom divider. Then glue the very bottom edge of the larger piece to the bottom divider. This should leave you with a pocket. I like to punch my binder holes at this stage, because after you laminate the cash envelopes it will be really hard to punch the holes.
Now laminate the cash envelopes and cut them out. I decided to use my corner cutter and round off each edge. Run your Exacto Knife very lightly over the divider slit as to only go though the lamination. This part is so very important and extremely easy to screw up by cutting all the way through the envelope. Be very light! Re-punch your binder holes and Wala! Your cash envelopes are ready to be labeled and placed into your planner!

I love this idea! I think I would want to laminate the register on the back of each envelope as well, so that I could keep up with how much I had left, and where it was spent. Then I could just wipe off at the end of the month and begin fresh.
This is a great idea, Shannon! Thanks for sharing.
I must be blind… after signing up and getting the password -I can’t find the link to the template. The link I found brings me to Cricut but has a bunch of random stuff that has nothing to do with the pouch.
Sorry you are having trouble! The link takes you to the Cricut Design Space website. You have to login to your account to use the template.
