A Guide to Reading Through the New Testament Chronologically

A couple of ladies from my church invited me to do a Bible Study with them. This study focused on creating a habit of reading through our Bibles daily. The Bible Study is super easy. We just text each other to hold ourselves accountable or to ask questions about the readings. Our goal is reading through the New Testament chronologically in 4 months.

To be honest when I first started reading it seemed to be pretty easy. I created a Bible Study printable to help us get the most of our readings. You can get your hands on this printable by going to my Free Resources page. This printable helped me write everything down in one place and help me to understand what I was actually reading.

I did run into a road block where I actually missed a few days and while the other ladies understood and faced the same problem, I did feel really disappointed in myself. When you find it hard to create new habits, you sometimes have to get creative.

I decided to put my Bible in my bathroom, here I can easily read everyday. This is the one place I am guaranteed to visit daily, hopefully with no distractions! I enjoy reading in the tub or while Potty Training my 3 year old dictator.

How to Reading through the New Testament chronologically?

In order to read through the New Testament chronologically you need to figure out what chapters and verses fit in order of event. You can actually find the order of readings to follow in my Free Resources page here. If you follow the reading according to this list, it should take you approximately 4 months to complete.

You could break down the readings even more, though it would obviously take you longer than 4 months to get through the New Testament. The most important thing to remember about this study is that this is more about creating a new reading habit. It is not about just getting through all the books.

Reading through the New Testament chronologically has made it so much easier to recall specific events. I find this list of passages does a good job of grouping similar readings together and even makes understanding the reading so much better.

This is such an amazing opportunity to truly appreciate the different writers of the New Testament Books. I really enjoyed seeing how people can say basically the same thing in such a different way.

Once you get into the habit of opening your Bible everyday, you find yourself wanting to read more and more. When you miss a day, you feel the word calling you back. I want to know Jesus more intimately and every part of the Bible points to Jesus. It is never too late to join in on the readings, you can start at anytime.
